Nun attacked in AP

E-Mail this report to a friend

The mother superior of the Jesus Mary Joseph congregation, Sister Mariamma Kurapati, was assaulted by a youth at the JMJ school in Nagarjuna Nagar on the outskirts of Vijayawada yesterday.

Andhra Pradesh Catholic Mission Hospital president Sister Susan Tharakan told UNI over phone today that the youth, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, had attempted to enter the school dinning room through the kitchen, which was objected to by the kitchen staff.

Enraged by this, the youth had abused them.

On hearing the commotion, the mother superior had rushed to the kitchen, where she was attacked by the youth.

He was later apprehended by the brothers of the Jesuit Noviseiate and handed over to the police.

Sister Mariamma was admitted to the St Joseph's hospital at Guntur with a fractured hand, the sister added.

It was suspected that the youth was agitated over the holding of a prayer meeting at the school recently. He was also carrying a Hindi version of the Bible at the time of the attack, the sister said.
