Sonia will do her magic in Karnataka on Feb 5

E-Mail this report to a friend

Congress president Sonia Gandhi will kick off her party's campaign for the November assembly election in Karnataka by addressing a mammoth public rally in Davanagere on February 5, state unit president Dharam Singh said on Friday.

He said Sonia would arrive in Bangalore on February 4, and proceed to Davanagere the next morning. There, she would attend a three-hour workers convention, similar to the one in Tirupati, before addressing the rally.

He said dharnas would be staged all over Karnataka on the Martyr's Day to protest against the increasing communal violence in the country.

Singh condemned the Centre's decision to raise the price of commodities distributed through the public distribution system, and urea. This would hit the poor hard.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government was anti-poor and anti-farmer, he charged.

He declined comment on the leadership issue in the state unit.
