Guerrillas of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura shot dead two people, including a local tribal leader, and kidnapped three small traders in Tripura in the past 24 hours.

Police sources said in Agartala today that members of the banned NLFT raided the house of a local tribal politician, Celafru Mog, who is also a gram pradhan (village headman), at West Nalichara under the Ambassa police station in Dhalai district last night and shot him and a tribal youth dead.

The youth was a member of the All-Tripura Tribal Force who had surrendered.

In another incident, guerrillas abducted three small traders from Killa area in South Tripura district.

Security forces rushed to the areas and began combing operations to nab the rebels and rescue the captives.
