Orissa Chief Justice Phukan
elevated to the Supreme Court

Chief Justice S N Phukan of the Orissa high court was today sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Chief Justice of India Adarsh Sein Anand administered the oath of office to Justice Phukan at a simple ceremony.

Judges of the Supreme Court, law officers, and advocates attended the ceremony.

With this, the number of judges in the apex court goes up to 24, as against the sanctioned strength of 26.
