Harikrishna quits assembly; Daggubati, the BJP

E-Mail this report to a friend

Nandamuri Harikrishna, who launched the Anna Telugu Desam yesterday, resigned his seat in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly today.

Harikrishna submitted his resignation to assembly Special Secretary C Venkatesan after paying floral tributes to his late father N T Rama Rao at the NTR Ghat near the state secretariat along with a large number of political colleagues and activists.

Harikrishna represented Hindupur in the state assembly.

Meanwhile, Dr Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, Rajya Sabha member and vice-president of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, today resigned from primary membership of the BJP and joined the ATD.

Announcing this at a press conference in Hyderabad, Dr Rao, eldest son-in-law of NTR, said he felt the new party would be the right platform to work for the ideals and pro-poor policies of the late chief minister.

He said that even though he was not elected to the Rajya Sabha as a BJP candidate, he would resign his membership of the house on moral grounds.
