A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation in Bombay has arrested Harish Mishra alias Sharma, brother of Romesh Sharma, the alleged front man of gangster Dawood Ibrahim, in connection with the case of forcible retention of a helicopter of a businessman, S Suresh Rao.

He was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K H Holambe Patil who remanded him to the transit custody of the CBI till January 22. The CBI will take him to Delhi to produce him before a court hearing the case there.

According to the CBI's remand application, Mishra had on behalf of Romesh Sharma struck the deal with Rao for leasing out the helicopter for election campaign in Phulpur during the 1996 Lok Sabha election.

Mishra had paid an advance of Rs 300,000 while taking possession of the helicopter. Sharma allegedly did not return the helicopter even after the lease period was over and instead allegedly abducted Rao and inflicted physical and mental torture on him.

Romesh Sharma was arrested following Rao's complaint. The helicopter was seized from the former's farm house near Delhi on October 21.
