BCCI shifts office to Calcutta

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has shifted its headquarters to Eden Gardens, Calcutta, in the wake of yesterday's attack on its office in Brabourne Stadium in Bombay.

Briefing newsmen today, Cricket Association of Bengal president Jagmohan Dalmiya said the BCCI approached the CAB with a request to accommodate the parent body's office in Eden Gardens.

''We have accepted their request. The board can have its office here as long as they wish,'' Dalmiya said.

Dalmiya, who is also the president of the International Cricket Council, said the vandalism would affect the players and was making the situation non-congenial for the game of cricket.

''Such vandalism will undoubtedly affect the players but, they have to live with it,'' he said.

Dalmiya, however, pointed out that the tour should continue despite vandalism by a section of political activists. ''The tour should not be put off. But I do not know what will happen later.''

When asked whether the shifting of the BCCI headquarters would demoralise players and cricket enthusiasts, Dalmiya said, ''Why be at a place where you are unwanted.''
