Japan welcomes Lahore Declaration

Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi today welcomed the agreement reached between Pakistan and India yesterday to take immediate steps to reduce the risk of accidental or unauthorised use of nuclear weapons.

''It is desirable for the two countries to head toward the easing of political tensions,'' Obuchi told the media in Tokyo.

''I hope the agreement in the summit will turn out to be fruitful'' especially because both countries conducted nuclear test explosions last year, Obuchi said.
