E-Mail this report to a friend

There was "no sexual assault" of the Catholic nun who had claimed to have been raped, according to the medical report filed by an expert.

The examination, conducted by professor N K Mahanty of the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, indicated "there is no medical findings suggestive of sexual intercourse".

The report further stated, "Considering the injury noted by the primary medical officer on the left labia minus could have been self-inflicted."

The findings have been passed on to the police, which had sought the experts' opinion after an FIR was lodged with the Sadar police station in Baripada stating that the nun had been gang-raped on February 3.

Meanwhile, the police has detained one Ranjit Singh for interrogation in connection with the incident.
