INLD will decide on support after Vajpayee returns

E-Mail this report to a friend

The general body of the Indian National Lok Dal Thursday deferred its decision to withdraw support to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government till February 21, following an appeal by the prime minister to wait till his return from abroad.

The support of the four-member party is crucial for the government's survival.

Addressing newspersons after the meeting, INLD leader O P Chautala said if their demand for rolling back the prices of essential commodities and urea was not accepted by February 21, the party would withdraw support.

The general body has authorised Chautala to talk to the prime minister. He indicated the meeting is likely to take place on February 15, the day Vajpayee gets back to the capital.

The party would also hold a rally in Delhi on March 6 to press its demand to roll back prices, Chautala said.
