Centre rapped for law and order situation in Delhi

The Delhi high court Wednesday pulled up the Central government for presenting a 'wrong picture' of the law and order scenario in the capital.

The situation, it noted, is "worse than what is being projected.''

A division bench comprising Justices Anil Dev Singh and A K Srivastava directed the joint secretary in the Union home ministry, who is in charge of Delhi, to be present on next date of hearing, February 17.

The court was hearing a public interest petition filed by Advocate Rajeev Awasthi seeking a court monitoring of the situation in the capital.

During an earlier hearing, the court was told that the crime graph in the city was coming down. The government also submitted that more personnel were required for security.

The government had then sanctioned 17 new police stations, and personnel for them. The court was also informed that land had been acquired and the construction of police station been initiated.
