SC rejects plea to raise retirement of lower judiciary

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking raising of the age of retirement of judges in the lower judiciary from 60 to 62 years.

It was contended in the petition, filed by Delhi's additional district and sessions judge S M Aggrawal, that as the retirement age of university lecturers had been raised from 60 to 62 years, the same should be done in the case of judges in the lower judiciary.

However, a division bench, comprising Chief Justice A S Anand and Justice M Srinivasan, dismissed the petition observing that there was no ''merit in the petition''.
