Stage set for President's rule in Goa

With all parties uniting to demand the dissolution of the state assembly, President's rule is likely to be imposed on Goa tomorrow.

Late this evening, Goa Rajiv Congress politician Wilfred de Souza and his ally, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, came around to the view that dissolution of the assembly and imposition of President's rule is the best solution.

"The question of staking my claim [to form an alternative government] does not arise as the BJP is not supporting my government," de Souza said in his letter.

The Union Cabinet is likely to meet tomorrow afternoon to take a decision in the matter.

But whether the assembly will be dissolved immediately or kept in suspended animation pending Parliament's approval of the imposition of President's rule was not clear.
