Mandal's supporters claim they are the 'real JMM'

E-Mail this report to a friend

The supporters of suspended Jharkhand Mukti Morcha vice-president Suraj Mandal, calling themselves the ''real JMM'', have decided to move the Election Commission for recognition as the official representatives of the Morcha. They have also planned to oust Morcha president Shibu Soren for ''his failure to keep the party intact.'' A central committee meeting called by Mandal on December 15 in Ranchi is likely to replace Soren and elect other office-bearers of the party.

The central committee is the supreme decision-making body according to the Morcha constitution and has the authority to sack or elect office-bearers, Mandal said. He claimed that as he was still the Morcha vice-president, he had full the authority to convene a meeting of the central committee in the larger interests of the party. Claiming a majority in the central committee, Mandal alleged that Soren had announced his suspension without taking the central committee into confidence.

He said that Soren was aware that the decision to suspend him [Mandal] would not be cleared by the central committee and hence he did not bring the issue before it.

He said Soren would now be tried in the central committee for violating the party constitution. The central committee on December 15 would also apprise the Election Commission regarding its status as ''the real Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,'' he added.
