2 policemen killed, 4 injured in ULFA ambush

At least two policemen were killed on the spot and four others, including a civilian, were critically injured in an ambush by suspected United Liberation Front of Asom militants at Khasarabari in Barpeta district last night, official sources said. The injured were shifted to the medical college hospital in Guwahati.

A police party led by the officer in charge of the Anandapur police outpost was on patrol duty when the militants fired at them with sophisticated weapons killing two of them and injuring four.

The deceased were identified as Ghanashyam Lekharu and N K Paneswar Nath.

The injured were officer in charge Abdul Zelil Choudhury, constables Tarun Das and Mukut Deka and a civilian, Dijen Boro.

In another encounter an ULFA militant was killed and a Central Reserve Police Force jawan injured at Majpathari in Nagaon district. A nine mm pistol was recovered from the militant, sources added.
