Maharashtra to build hi-tech villages in Orissa

E-Mail this report to a friend

Debi Pattnaik in Bhubaneswar

Erasama, the witness to the century's worst cyclone, will soon have model villages with all hi-tech and cyclone-proof facilities, thanks to the idea floated by the Maharashtra government.

The Maharashtra government and the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee had jointly launched 'Operation Jagatsinghpur' to rebuild and reconstruct the worst-affected areas of the coastal district, bearing the brunt of the October 29 super cyclone.

The government had consulted experts and some non-governmental organisations having experience in the Latur earthquake rehabilitation, to be engaged in preparing the model villages in the Erasama block. The model villages would be able to sustain the impact of cyclones in future.

MPCC general secretary Avinash Pande, who was in Bhubaneswar to give a final touch to the proposed rehabilitation and reconstruction programmes in Jagatsinghpur district, told UNI that about 100 volunteers, who had worked in Latur, would soon be pressed into service to reconstruct the villages.
