Nuke doctrine is not final: PM

E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today categorically declared that there was no change in India's nuclear policy. ''We want a nuclear weapon-free world,'' he said.

Addressing the media, he said the nuclear doctrine released by India recently was just a draft for public discussion and not a final document. ''No other conclusion should be drawn from this doctrine.

''Our stand is very clear, that no nuclear weapon should be used against non-nuclear countries. We are ready to have discussions with all countries, including Pakistan, on this issue,'' he added.

Asked whether in the developing situation the policy could be changed, Vajpayee said, ''We will stick to our policy.''
