PoK PM supports opening of LoC

E-Mail this report to a friend

The prime minister of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir today threw his weight behind proposals to open the Line of Control dividing Kashmir.

Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood said that the Kashmiri people would back such an idea, which was proposed last month by former Pakistan prime minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.

''If there is any proposal for the opening of LoC for the free movement of Kashmiri people across it, we will fully support it,'' Mahmood said.

Mahmood said he hoped that India and the Pakistani government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief would not block the idea. Sharief's administration reacted coolly to the Bhutto proposal when it was aired.
