Terrorists target brigade HQ in Kashmir

E-Mail this report to a friend

In the third attack in less than three days on army personnel in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists targeted the headquarters of the 68 Mountain Brigade at Trehgam near the Line of Control, killing a soldier.

The attack came late on Saturday night, barely half a day after the landmine explosion that killed Colonel Balbir Singh of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and two soldiers accompanying him.

The terrorists attacked the brigade headquarters with rockets, followed by machine-gun fire. Three of the rockets hit the supply depot in the headquarters, where some barracks are also located. A portion of the barracks collapsed.

Yoginder Singh of the 33 (1) FD workshop was killed when a rocket shrapnel hit his forehead. Kewal Singh, Danesh Kumar Parmar and Manoj Kumar Singh were injured by another rocket. A truck driver, Banarsi Das, who was carrying supplies for the camp was also injured.
