CPI loses a leader in Andhra

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Communist Party of India's veteran leader in Andhra Pradesh, Rajeswara Rao has resigned from the party on "moral and personal" grounds.

In a letter faxed to the state party office from his native Karimnagar district, he said he was quitting because his son was seeking the ruling Telugu Desam Party ticket to contest from Sircilla assembly constituency, which he (Rao) had represented.

Rao was the CPI legislature party leader in the last assembly.

CPI state secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said it was painful that Rao was quitting.

Incidentally, Rao had not figured in the CPI's first list of candidates released last Friday.
