Declare Pak a terrorist state, BJP urges world

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Bharatiya Janata Party Monday called upon all countries, including the United States, to declare Pakistan a terrorist state and put an end to its "deadly business of exporting terrorism."

Reacting to the sudden rise in the activities of that nation's Inter-Services Intelligence in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India, the party asserted that the US should act ''if it wants America's anti-terrorism policy to be seen as a credible weapon against terrorism.''

BJP general secretary Narendra Modi said Pakistan was a rogue state that did not believe in bilateral treaties or arrangements. The Kargil intrusion was Pakistan's first act of betrayal after the Lahore Declaration. The betrayal was continuing through the proxy war against India. As a terrorist state, Pakistan was a threat to international peace and, therefore, Modi argued, it was incumbent on all nations that believed in crushing terrorism to declare it a terrorist state.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had already urged the US to act in this direction, Modi said.

He added that America, like other Western governments, had irrefutable evidence about Pakistan's aiding, arming, training and exporting terrorists across borders.
