Freeze LoC to end border skirmishes, says Abdullah

E-Mail this report to a friend

The only solution to put an end to the border skirmishes was the freezing of the Line of Control, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah said today.

Talking to newsmen, he said freezing of the LoC would help in preventing insurgency.

Dr Abdullah said militant activities in his state had not come down and that more than 1300 infiltrators have crept into the region during the last three months.

Asked about his party supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party which had been dubbed as "communal", he said with its diverse culture and religion all political parties virtually had communally-minded people. By being in the coalition led by the BJP, secularism could be realised, he added.

Dr Abdullah said the need of the hour was a strong government at the Centre and this could be achieved only through a strong coalition.

He declined to comment on the BJP's opposition to include the Sharad Yadav faction of the Janata Dal into the NDA, stating that it was between those two parties to resolve the issue.
