Nitish Kumar's resignation accepted

President K R Narayanan has accepted the resignation of Railway and Surface Transport Minister Nitish Kumar from the Union Council of Ministers on the advice of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Kumar submitted his resignation to Vajpayee owning moral responsibility for the Gaisal rail accident on Monday.

While the railway ministry would now be under Vajpayee, the surface transport ministry would be handled by External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh.
