Vajpayee kept mum on Kargil to enhance reputation, charges Mulayam

E-Mail this report to a friend

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has reiterated his allegation that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee kept the nation in the dark about the Pakistani intrusion in Kashmir just to enhance his reputation in the world.

Speaking at a function in Etawah yesterday, Yadav said the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, which cried itself hoarse about the need for a stable government, could not save the country from foreign aggression whenever they were in power. He alleged that the BJP had surrendered to foreign powers on the economic front also.

The SP chief said it was high time that the country had a government of the third force to steer it towards stability, peace and development. ''My party was making relentless efforts to evolve the third force,'' he added. Refuting the opposition allegations that he wanted to become the prime minister using the anti-communalism plank, Yadav said he had ordered firing at Ayodhya in 1990 not to please the Muslims but to defend the Constitution and to restore law and order.
