Decaying mummy to be preserved in nitrogenA special nitrogen-filled glass chamber will be brought from Egypt to preserve the 2,300 year-old mummy that lies decaying at the Vadodara museum. A team comprising Dr N Y Iskander, an Egyptian expert, Dr Tej Singh, the director general of Lucknow-based National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property, Dr H Chand, A R Shah and Satish Sadasiran met on April 15 and decided to make some microbiological cultures. At present, the toes of the mummy are in a stable state. However, an examination of the wooden coffin revealed that insects have eaten into it. The coffin base has now been mended. UNI
