RSP, Forward Bloc oppose plan to put Congress in power

The Left Front, which is striving to install a Congress-led government at the Centre, has suffered a jolt with two of its constituents, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the All-India Forward Bloc, opposing the idea.

The two parties, with eight members in the Lok Sabha, however, made their intention of voting against the motion of confidence moved by the government in the House today clear.

They said they would never support a government formed by the Congress in the event of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition's collapse.

They said they could not sacrifice ideology and idealism for short-cuts to power with the help of the Congress or the BJP, between whom they see no difference so far as economic policies are concerned.

RSP sources also regretted the "ditching" of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Tamil Maanila Congress by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
