TN speaker refuses to relent against AIADMK legislators

E-Mail this report to a friend

Speaker of the Tamil Nadu assembly, P T R Palanivel Rajan today ruled out reconsidering his decision, suspending All India Anna DMK legislators R Thamaraikani and S Karuppusamy from the house for the rest of the budget session.

The two AIADMK MLAs were suspended on March 22 last, after Thamaraikani assaulted Agriculture Minister Veerapandi Arumugham in the house.

Responding to a plea by P R Sundaram (AIADMK) to reconsider his ruling, Palanivel Rajan said there was no reason to revoke the suspension.

He also recalled that when Thamaraikani was a member of the previous assembly, Jayalalitha, who was the then chief minister, had recommended action against him for frequently disturbing the proceedings of the house.
