Sushma, Shekhawat quit

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today tendered the resignation of his council of ministers after the ruling party's debacle in the November 25 assembly election.

Shekhawat has sent in his resignation to acting Governor Navrang Lal Tibrewal a short while ago.

The governor advised him to continue till alternative arrangements are made.

Delhi Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj tendered her resignation to Lieutenant Governor Vijai Kapoor tonight following the BJP's impending defeat in the recently-concluded assembly elections.

Raj Bhavan sources said Swaraj came to the lieutenant governor's residence at about 2145 hours and submitted the resignation letter.

Swaraj became the chief minister on October 12 after her predecessor, Sahib Singh Verma, was asked by the party high command to step down following the Delhi government's failure on various fronts.

Even though the BJP was facing debacle in the elections, Swaraj won her seat from Hauz Khas constituency in south Delhi, defeating her nearest rival, Kiran Walia of the Congress, by 2,615 votes.
