E-Mail this report to a friend

In a major development following the Bharatiya Janata Party's reverses in the assembly elections, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee called on President K R Narayanan tonight.

Vajpayee drove down to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan immediately after holding consultations with party president Kushbhau Thakre, Samta Party leader George Fernandes, Lok Shakti president Ramakrishna Hegde and Akali Dal leader Surjit Singh Barnala.

It is not immediately known what transpired during the meeting between the President and the prime minister.

Vajpayee had earlier in the day had told the media that there is no question of change of government at the Centre and that the BJP and its allies would prove their strength on the floor of the Lok Sabha in the coming Parliament session beginning on Monday.
