Polls countermanded in three Rajasthan constituencies

E-Mail this report to a friend

Elections have been countermanded in three of the 200 assembly constituencies going to the polls on November 25 in Rajasthan following the deaths of candidates of the major contesting parties.

While the election in the Mundwa assembly constituency of Nagaur district was countermanded due to the death of Bharatiya Janata Party nominee Ram Dev Chaudhary, the same was suspended in Kumbhalgarh (Udaipur) and Bhim (Rajsamand) assembly seats following the death of Bahujan Samaj Party nominees in both constituencies in a road accident near Ajmer on Wednesday night.

The two BSP candidates, Mukul Gurjar (Kumbhalgarh) and Laxman Singh (Bhim,) were going to Rajsamand to attend some function along with party workers when their jeep rammed into a truck, killing four people on the spot and injuring another three.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr Sudhir Verma said the date of polling in the three seats would be announced by the Election Commission in due course.
