Earth Trustee award for Malayalee priest

Father Thomas Kocherry, general coordinator of the World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers, has been chosen for the Earth Trustee award.

The award goes to the Keralite priest for his contribution in setting up an alliance of eight million fish workers in the country and his efforts to stop factory fishing for preserving the marine ecology, WFF office secretary A Santiago said.

The award, instituted by the WFF and the National Fish Workers Forum, will be presented to Father Kocherry at a function during the Earth Day celebrations in New York on March 20. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan will be the guest of honour at the function.
