Anti-tank Nag missile tested successfully

The indigenously developed anti-tank guided missile Nag was successfully test-fired from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur on Sea, about 15 km from Balaslore today.

Official sources said the missile was test fired at 1050 hours from the ITR.

Developed as a part of the five missile systems that constitute the integrated guided missile development programme undertaken by the Defence Research Development Organisation, Nag is considered an all-weather third generation heat-seeking missile capable of penetrating any type of armour.

The first flight trial of this missile system was carried out in 1990.

The sources said Nag would enter the user trial phase in the army in mid-1998. Another test firing of the missile is likely to be conducted from the ITR during the day.
