N T Rama Rao's son-in-law joins BJP

Dr Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, Rajya Sabha member and eldest son-in-law of Telugu Desam party-founder N T Rama Rao, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Dr Rao, who was elected on the NTR-Telugu Desam party ticket in the biennial election held to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, had severed his connections with the party and has been an unattached member of the Upper House.

Besides Rao, a former Congress minister Ravindra Naik, NTR-Telugu Desam politburo member P Chenchulakshmi and former member of the legislative council P Ramabramham also joined the BJP.

The party has also replaced its candidate in the Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency with popular Telugu actor Krishnamraju. The actor, who was with the Telugu Desam Party earlier, had contested on the Congress ticket in the 1991 Lok Sabha poll. The party is yet to announce its candidates for 13 seats in the state.
