CPI-M announces candidates

Bar seven members of the dissolved Lok Sabha, the Communist Party of India-Marxist has renominated all its former Parliamentarians for the coming elections from Assam, Kerala and West Bengal.

Those who have been nominated to replace the former members are: Prof M K Premajam (Badagara ) and Varkala Radhakrishnan (Chiraylinkil) from Kerala, Samar Choudhury from Assam, and Minati Sen (Jalpaiguri), Mainul Hassan (Murshidabad), Bikash Choudhury (Asansol) and Nikhil Sar (Burdwan) from West Bengal.

There are five women among the 47 candidates announced so far. They include Sandhya Bauri (Bishnapur-ST ), Prof Malini Bhattacharya (Jadavpur)) and C S Sujatha (Alleppey).

Prominent among the members of the dissolved house who have been renominated are Somnath Chatterjee, Nirmal Kanti Chatterjee, Basudev Acharia and Hanan Mollah.

In Assam, Uddhab Barman will be again fielded to retain the Barpeta seat. In Silchar, Noorul Huda will be the party's candidate against former minister Sontosh Mohan Dev, who is being fielded by the Congress.

Phool Singh Sheokand is the CPI-M's candidate for the Hissar constituency in Haryana.
