JD to contest all 6 seats

The Janata Dal's Jammu and Kashmir unit has decided to contest all the six seats in the state for the general election.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided by JD state parliamentary board chairman Dilawar Mir. It will submit a panel of candidates to the parent body shortly.

The ruling National Conference had already announced that it would contest all six seats in the state.

JD leader and Union Minister of State for Home Maqbool Dar, who won from Anantnag, had been reportedly lobbying for an alliance or support from the NC.

The JD had split with Ghulam Qadir Wani who has floated a separate J&K Janata Dal.

The NC had boycotted the last general election. The Congress had bagged four seats while the JD and Bharatiya Janata Party clinched one seat each. In the subsequent assembly poll, the National Front swept to power with a two-third majority.
