'BJP desecrates Bible, attacks pastors'

The All-India United Christian Movement for Equal Rights and the National Co-ordination Committee for Scheduled Caste Christians have strongly condemned the desecration of the Bible and the recent attack on three pastors allegedly by Bharatiya Janata Party activists in Medchal, near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

An AIUCMER-NCCSCC fact-finding team, which visited the area, has termed the attack as "preplanned, unprovoked and barbaric".

In a joint statement, the team demanded that the BJP leadership tender an apology to the community and condemn the desecration. ''The attack was an affront to the secular fabric of the our country,'' they added.

The team included Brother Jose Daniel and former MLA Christine Lazarus.

Brother Daniel demanded that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu take steps to book the culprits identified so far.

Both the outfits have decided to organise a protest rally at Medchal on January 17, the statement said.

Lazarus regretted that Naidu had neither condemned the incident nor visited the place.
