Sonia to launch her campaign on Jan 11

Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's widow Sonia will begin her nationwide campaign for the Congress on January 11 at Sriperumbudur where her husband was assassinated six-and-a-half years ago.

She will address a public meeting after paying homage to Rajiv Gandhi at the site of his assassination.

The first phase of her campaign, which will take her to four states -- Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Goa -- will start from Bangalore on January 15 with a public meeting.

She will speak at a public meeting at Hyderabad on January 16 and at Cochin the same evening. She will address a rally in Goa on January 17.

The second phase of her campaign will start on January 19. Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad said party president Sitaram Kesri and Sonia may jointly address some meetings.

Azad said the party was also finalising Kesri's campaign programme. The Congress chief had kicked off the party's election campaign from Bhubaneswar and later addressed meetings in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
