13 soldiers ambushed in ManipurAt least 13 soldiers were killed and six seriously injured when their convoy was ambushed by militants at Shanting village in Churachandpur district in Manipur on Friday. The militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked members of the 32 battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles when they were travelling from Leizanthai to Tuilaphai under the Thanlon police station. The militants used improvised explosives to ambush the soldiers. The driver of the vehicle lost control and the jeep fell into a deep gorge. The jawans fired several rounds, but the militants escaped. The injured jawans have been admitted to the army hospital at Leimakhong, headquarters of the 57nd Mountain Division. UNI |
