In India's celestial footsteps...

India's self-reliance in space and missile technology has encouraged other countries to seek its help to launch satellites, Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral said on Friday.

''At least three foreign requests to launch their satellites by our launchers have been received,'' the prime minister said on the eve of the 85th session of the Indian Science Congress Association in Hyderabad.

India, Gujral said, is one of the few countries which is self-reliant in space technology.

''Our scientists have really made India proud, especially during the golden jubilee year,'' he said.
