Runner Up: INC Satyendra Nath Roy 296576
Margin: 143707 (16.00%)

The RSP's Palas Burman won this seat for the first time in 1977, and held on to it till 1991. In 1996 his party nominated Ranen Burman, who defeated old Congress foe Satyendra Nath Roy by 144,000 votes. The interesting aspect about the last elections was that the BJP's Manmohan Roy bagged 16.17 % of the vote.
