Since 1977, when the BLD won from here, the seat has chosen to remain non-Congress, barring 1984 when Balram Singh Yadav broke the trend. In 1996, the constituency elected Mulayam Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party who defeated Updesh Singh Chauhan of the BJP by 52,000 votes.
