Cricketer Chetan Chauhan made his electoral debut from here on the BJP's ticket in 1991, and was elected by a convincing margin. When he sought re-election in 1996 the constituency had no hesitation in rejecting him, and voted for the Samajwadi Party's Pratap Singh, who defeated Chauhan by 47,000 votes. The BSP's Rashid Alvi, coming third, took away 137,229 votes. Interestingly, in 1967 and 1971 this constituency was represented by the CPI's Ishaq Sambhali.
