It has been a fair share between the Congress and others in this constituency, the latter winning the first two elections from here. In 1984 Sriballav Panigrahi won the seat for the Congress and lost the next round to Rabinarayan Pani of the JD. Panigrahi won back the seat in 1991 and held on to it in 1996, when for the first time it was the BJP and not the JD that came in second.
