Another Congress citadel that fell to the BJP in 1989 and in 1996. S B Singh was elected from here for the first time in 1980, and retained his seat in 1984. In 1989 the BJP wrested the seat from him, winning 51.5 % of the vote, but in 1991 Singh reclaimed his seat. Again, in 1996, the BJP took the seat back, defeating Singh by a huge margin of 60,000 votes.
