Margin: 9198 (1.49%)

Pushpa Singh won the seat on the Congress ticket for the first time in 1980, and retained it the next time round. In 1989 she was defeated by the BJP, but she bounced back in 1991. In 1996, however, the BJP's Nand Kumar Sai took the seat away, defeating her by 10,000 votes.
