The seat from where Indira Gandhi made a comeback in 1980, defeating the Janata Party's S Jaipal Reddy who is today the I&B minister. In the election four years later, the TDP's P Manik Reddy sent Congress heavyweight P Shiv Shankar packing. From 1989 onwards, however, it has sent the Congress's M Baga Reddy to the Lok Sabha. The BJP, which cornered 15.8 % of the votes in 1991, increased its tally to 19.88 % in 1996.
