No post-poll tie with UF, Congress, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday made it absolutely clear that it will have no truck with the United Front or the Congress in the post-election scenario.

"We are fighting both these parties in the election and there is no question of forming any alliance with them," Arun Jaitley, member of the BJP national executive, told newsmen in New Delhi. He asserted that the BJP and its allies will get absolute majority in the election.

While expressing apprehension that the Congress and the United Front might forge an alliance, Jaitley said the Left Front and the UF should openly declare their stand on the alliance. "They must tell the nation whether they will cover up the Bofors case and other Congress-conducted scams or forge a political alliance with those who symbolise dynastic rule, corruption and venality in public life."

"The electorate must know so that the political opportunism of the future will not go unchecked," he said.

Jaitley said, "The Congress is not functioning like a political party, it has been reduced to a crowd of supplicants, eager to pay homage to a family. That family today represents a dynasty, which has a lot to answer for. The campaign launched by the family has revived and brought to the centrestage the issue of political corruption, dynastic rule and political inexperience," he added.
