Expelled BJP legislators join Congress

Rajasthan legislators Dr Shankar Bhanuda and Rewat Ram Pawar have joined the Congress.

The announcement was made by Congress state president Ashok Gehlot and leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Paras Ram Maderna.

Both Bhanuda and Pawar were expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party for 'anti-party activities' some two weeks ago.

In 1993, Dr Bhanuda was elected from the Kapasan assembly segment of Chittorgarh district. Ram Pawar, for his part, had won the Nokha assembly segment in Bikaner district.

Both politicians said they had found themselves 'misfits' in the BJP set-up for quite some time -- they basically belonged to the Congress culture, they claimed.

Gehlot and Maderna claimed there were several BJP legislators who wanted to cross over to the Congress. However, the Congress had been discouraging them as the party did not believe in 'defection-oriented and unprincipled politics'.
