Karthikeyan is new CBI chief

Newly appointed Central Bureau of Investigation Director D R Karthikeyan says the CBI will not be used to settle scores against anyone.

Karthikeyan has been asked to officiate as the agency's director till further orders, following the retirement of CBI Director R C Sharma's term at the weekend.

Asked about his priorities, Kartikeyan said the pending court cases and filling up of vacancies in the CBI would be taken up on an urgent basis.

Karthikeyan, who also headed the CBI's Special Investigating Team that probed the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, belongs to the 1964 batch of the Karnataka cadre of the Indian Police Service.

His term ended on October 31, but he was given a six month extension.
