Gujarat Congress claims central panel is a farce

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee today claimed the central official team that visited Gandhinagar today in connection with the recent disturbances in south Gujarat, would be submitting its report according to the wishes of Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.

GPCC spokespersons Arvind Sanghavi and Hasmukh Patel said the central team had come merely to "listen" to the state government's side and that it had not visited the actual scene of violence to listen to the woes of the affected people. Such a report could not be trusted, they alleged.

Meanwhile, a delegation of All-India Rashtriya Janata Party, led by state unit president Madhusudan Mistry and former chief minister Dilip Parikh, today submitted a memorandum to Gujarat Governor Anshuman Singh alleging that, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal were creating a "sense of persecution" with "state patronage".

They also urged the governor to take appropriate action in this regard.
